Glass Design Ltd were approached to take on the challenge of allowing natural light to shine through six industrial style arched windows for this underground swimming pool. At the preliminary meetings it soon became clear that this was going to be a challenging project, which would test our skill and knowledge, combining glass, electrics and metal fabrication skill sets.
The aim was to provide natural light for the swimming pool, which is 2 levels below the streets of London. Rolling heavy gauge steel to fit into each of the six arched shaped voids to incorporate Georgian cast glass, then interfacing with bespoke light sheets to sit snugly inside to give the illusion of variations of natural light piercing through each arched window from morning, afternoon till dusk.
The main contractor on this project specialises in prestigious residential and hospitality developments and specified our company to deliver something quite special for their client. Each detail had to be meticulously planned every step of the way on completion due to the location above the swimming pool.
The character of the building and surroundings required a subtle approach to how the design and concept would evolve and finish. To our delight and that of the client, contractor and the architect, the design and clever application of lighting worked perfectly, creating the illusion of natural light shining through.
