London’s Denmark Street, formally known as Tin Pan Alley is located in the historic heartland of the British music industry. The concept was to build and create this music, entertainment and digital art experience for all to enjoy, which has to be visited to appreciate its impact. We were delighted to be involved with the concept and asked if we would be able to manufacture glass that would interface with lighting in front and behind the bar, but would not effect live performances on the stage.
The design required a variation of colours with flicker lighting to be rotating with movement behind glass, while resident DJ’s played until the main event started. The difficulty was that the flicker lights had to disappear behind the glass once switched off, all that is on display is black glass, to allow the main stage lighting to focus on the main performance.
The process to achieve what the client requested was a challenge, but met with a positive attitude by all the team at Glass Design. Several samples and mock ups were prepared, tweaked and revised until we managed to finally produce the perfect solution for the glass and flicker lighting to work in perfect harmony.
Providing such a bespoke process that we had not previously manufactured and installed, did take a leap of faith but with our knowledge and experience the outcome has been faultless. The brand new 2,000 capacity Outernet has now opened it’s doors once again to music lovers in the UK and beyond, enjoying this incredible music venue.
